These are some of my works from the Line Unit. The first is the sketch that I completed was for the Line Idiom Project. I chose the idiom: "Hook, Line and Sinker" to use for my sketch, and drew a first person perspective of a fishing rod and a lake. The second drawing is a Zentangle square full of patterns that I tried to balance. Lastly, the third is my final line project of which I did a full page of random shapes overlapping each with a different pattern inside.
1.) What are some different ways to interpret line? What did you learn by thinking of line in different ways?
There are many different ways to interpret line. You could see line as the actual drawing of lines like Zentangles. Or you could see line as an idea like a phrase or idiom such as my first sketch. Also, line could be the building block of basic art like the element line. Additionally, line could be abstract like a Zentangle pattern, or realistic and concrete more like my Line Idiom Sketch. I learned that line could be many different things not just something as simple as a straight line dividing a page. Line can be anything in art, like some of the stuff I listed above, because I think line is what makes up all art. You have to draw curved and straight and diagonal lines to make up a drawing, sketch or painting. And you have to have lines in sculpture, ceramics and pottery too. So, I learned line can be so much more because, basically, line makes up a ton of art.
2.) How do you feel about your final artwork for this unit? What do you like or dislike about it?
Overall, I am very proud of my final work. It took me a long time to create all the patterns and overlap all the shapes. So now that I finally finished it, I feel very satisfied. I am most proud of all my patterns because I spent a lot of time on drawing them so there would be a balanced amount of dark and light patterns.
