These are some of the many projects I have done during this unit. The first is a couple sketches on shading objects and adding shadows. After learning those techniques, I drew a pear and applied them to my own drawing. The second is a 2-in-1 in which I combined a rattlesnake and a baby's rattle. I put the baby's rattle to be a funny replacement to the regular rattle on a rattlesnake. Lastly, the third drawing is a character remix that I did. I remixed Pluto with Scooby Doo to create Pluto Doo.
1.) I learned some very cool techniques in this unit. I learned some really effective ways to create shadows on objects that aren't very hard. One of which is to create a realistic shadow is not to use just black, but to use a variety of dark browns, blues and purples.
2.) I heard some interesting thoughts on what art is really "original" and how artists "steal not copy." The TedTalks about that concept was very eye-opening. I liked the point that the presenter said with the phone companies. He said if the phone companies would stop trying to sue each other for copying work and combine all their technologies we would have much more advanced smart phones. The same thing is true for art and for many other aspects of life. If artists combine lots of other artists' work and put their own little twist on it, then I think they truly have something original. That is my new definition of "original art" after completing this unit.
3.) I thought I did pretty well on both of my drawings; they were probably two of my best ever. Also, I think I did pretty well on some of the shadowing techniques used on the marbles. It was challenging though to draw an irregularly shaped shadow for the pear. And it was difficult to make the balls inside of the rattlesnake's rattle look like they were in motion. I don't think I would change to much on anyone of these projects because they demonstrate the best of my artistic abilities and overall I am very proud of how each one turned out. If I absolutely had to change something about one of these projects, again, I would like to redo the ground shadow of he pear. It was not as dark as it should have been and wasn't the right shape. But, all in all, I am very pleased and proud of all my artwork for this unit.
